Gulder Ultimate Search to return after seven years

Gulder Ultimate Search (GUS), a popular television reality show is returning to the screen after seven years off air.

GUS is created and sponsored by Nigerian Breweries Plc, manufacturers of Gulder lager beer, it was premiered in 2004 with 11 seasons on air. The show went on to become the most-watched reality TV series in Nigeria before it ended in 2016 for reasons unknown to the public.

Nigerian Breweries (NB) Plc has officially claimed that the show would make its comeback with “The Age of Craftsmanship” as the theme for the 2021 edition.

Sade Morgan, Corporate Affairs Director, Nigerian Breweries Plc, said;

“We are really excited to be bringing back the Gulder Ultimate Search for the viewing pleasure of Nigerians who have over the years continued to call for the return of the show. The planning team have put in place everything necessary to give the fans exactly what they enjoy about the show, and I am confident that everyone will be pleasantly surprised and delighted with what we have in store.”

According to Morgan, registration will kick off on September 1 and close on September 8, 2021. The first screening session starts September 13 in Abuja and Enugu, while the second screening session kicks off on September 16 in Lagos.

“The TV premiere of ‘Gulder Ultimate Search: The Age of Craftsmanship’ is set for October 16, 2021, and will run till December 19, when the grand finale will be staged.

“From the first edition, which premiered in 2004, contestants were camped in different parts of the country to struggle against themselves and the wild, i.e. nature, and their search for a hidden treasure that brings to the last person standing instant fame and fortune.

“The prize rose from N3 million from the first edition to N10 million and a brand new SUV in the last edition. Since it went off air, fans have been calling for its return. And now the show is back!

“In its 11-season run, the show discovered several talents who became stars in Nigeria’s entertainment industry. Some of the past winners – Kunle Remi (winner of the 2010 edition), Dennis Okike (Season 8) and Chris Okagbue (Season 10) went on to build a successful career in Nollywood.”

Hosts of the show during its hey days were Chidi Mokeme and Bob Manuel took over before the show went off air.

In the last days of the show celebrities including Funke Akindele-Bello and Daddy Shokey featured in the Celebrity version.

Big Brother Naija Shine Ya Eye housemates Pere, Whitemoney, Angel, Nini, Saga, and Queen are up for the final possible eviction for the season.

This was announced by Big Brother on Monday, day 58 of the show and beginning of the penultimate final week.

The above-mentioned housemates were automatically up for possible eviction after the games and ultimate veto power process.

Before the games, the ultimate power holder title was introduced in place of the usual Head of House games.

At the end of the games, Emmanuel emerged as the ultimate veto power holder for the week.

As the ultimate veto power holder, Emmanuel also has the power to choose the Head of House and Deputy for the week.

He chose Liquorose as the Head of House and Cross as the Deputy. With their new position, Cross and Liquorose also make it to the final week as they gain immunity too.

With Emmanuel, Liquorose, and Cross immune for the week, the rest of the housemates were automatically put up for possible eviction on Sunday.

The Sunday live show for this week would be the final eviction show for the season and will usher the successful housemates into the final week of the show.

Emmanuel, one of the housemates of the Big Brother Naija Shine Ya Eye, has emerged as the ultimate veto power holder thereby securing a spot in the finale.

This was announced by Big Brother on Monday, day 58 of the show and beginning of the penultimate final week.

As the ultimate veto holder, Emmanuel also has the power to choose the Head of House and Deputy for the week.

He chose Liquorose as the Head of House and Cross as the Deputy. With their new position, Cross and Liquorose also make it to the final week as they gain immunity too.

Before the game, the ultimate power holder title was introduced in place of the usual Head of House games.

The game for the ultimate veto power holder was quite different from the usual Head of House games.

For the new game, each of the housemates were expected to gather as many points as possible at the end of the games. The housemate with the most points wins the ultimate veto power.

The game involved four lanes with the movement of balls and balloons and the housemates were asked to move the object from the beginning of a lane to the end of the lane.

At the end of the game, Cross and Emmanuel had a tie and were asked to play again to determine the ultimate veto power holder.

After the tie breaker, Emmanuel emerged as the ultimate veto power holder for the week.

As the ultimate power holder, has immunity and therefore secured his place at the grand finale.
