Ayodeji Ibrahim Balogun, better known by his stage name Wizkid, is a Nigerian music icon who believes it is time for seasoned politicians to step down from office.
He claimed that compared to previous elections, he will be more actively involved in the general elections in 2023.
In an interview with the Guardian, Wizkid stated that the Nigerian electorate would remove veteran politicians from office the following year.
He also advised that instead of just retiring, they should spend the remainder of their lives in an old people’s home where they could unwind.
I’m about to lose my mind throughout this election. This time, the power is leaving all of these elderly men.
They need to go to an old people’s home and chill out,” he said, referencing the upcoming presidential election.
The Ojuelegba crooner also revealed that he is one of those who feel unable to celebrate the country’s October 1st independence day as a result of government’s failure and injustice.
“There’s nothing to celebrate, except that [Nigerians] are amazing people in music, sports, comedy – entertainment in general.
I’m proud of young Nigerians doing things around the world in tech. I have amazing friends, doing amazing things. That’s it, though. There’s nothing else, he added.
Despite the country’s present situation, Wizkid expressed optimism, saying he still has “big hopes” for Nigeria.
I have optimism that things will change. By when? I’m not certain. However, a lot has changed between then and now.
